Judith Halberstam: The Queer Art of Failure

Judith Halberstam is Professor of English, American Studies, and Ethnicity and Gender Studies at USC. Halberstam works in the areas of popular, visual and queer culture with an emphasis on subcultures. Halberstam is the author of Skin Shows: Gothic Horror and the Technology of Monsters (1995), Female Masculinity (1998), In a Queer Time and Place: Transgender Bodies, Subcultural Lives (2005), and, most recently, The Queer Art of Failure (2011).
Tavia Nyong’o is Associate Professor of Performance Studies at NYU, where he teaches courses on black performance, the history of the body, and subcultural performance. He is the author of The Amalgamation Waltz: Race, Performance, and the Ruses of Memory (2009) and the web editor of Social Text.
